Should you transition into menopause with or without hormones?


I suggest you begin the conversation about how you will transition itno menopause with or without hormones early, there is a lot to discuss with your gyno! Many women can transition easily through menopause. We recommend that our patients begin to read about their changing hormones in their late 30s, by age 40 come to review what to look for as signs that your estrogen is waning, after 45 with symptoms the diagnosis of perimenopause is likely going to be confirmed through our discussion, and somewhere between 50 and 55 we can give you a diagnosis of menopause.

Were you ever on hormone therapy? Were you ever taken off hormone therapy? Were you ever too scared for hormone therapy? All of this is understandable in light of new findings that politics, and 'alternative interpretations' hampered the interpretation of the many menopause study. Each woman is an individual. If you do or don't begin therapy you should do so as you work on beneficial lifestyle changes. For example, proper bone building in youth and continuing healthy diet can ward off the need for postmenopausal osteoporosis therapy. Then again, if we get old enough, such as living beyond 100, it is postulated that medication therapies may be necessary in almost all of us to keep healthy bones. So we have a lot more to learn about our own unique physiology to help us stay fit.
