In a new study of almost 500,000 black women, published in JAMA Dermatology, it was found that Africa American women with hair loss alopecia have much higher odds of having uterine fibroids. Since some women with early fibroids have no noticeable symptoms, it may be worth doing an ultrasound screening in women with hair loss. Women who have hair loss and heavy periods are especially likely to have fibroids.
