A Look At the Neck To Check the Heart

In the ifrst trimester of pregnancy we can do a test called Nucal Fold Translucency. This test is shown to detect over 85% of fetal abnormalities when done in the first trimester of pregnancy. But it also is highly linked with heart defects in the developing baby. This is because poor heart function causes a back up of fluids in the lymph system and that can lead to that swelling that shows up as a clear area on the sono at the back of the fetal neck. So that is an extra reason to get that test in early pregnancy.
