If a woman is unable to have intercourse because penetration is just too painful it may be vaginismus. There are effective treatments for this and you should see your gyno to be accurately diagnosed. Too many patients have been told "just relax" and in fact " just relax" won't work for a patient with vaginismus. But other treatments, usually dilator therapy, will.
